“Ah Hum” certainly stands out as an original in this poetry collection that encompasses all of life’s experiences, from friends to the Golden Rule, with wit, tenderness and wisdom. The illustrations by Noona, whom “Ah Hum” thanks in the dedication, capture the essence of each poem.
How do you capture the pleasure of reading this collection and feeling as if you’re talking to a wise and trusted friend, who gives you advice such as, in the poem “Oh, You Will Go,”
“Smile a smile that is so big and bright.
So when things are wrong,
they’ll seem so right.”
It’s easy to smile reading the verse treasures from “Ah Hum,” who also observes life’s everyday moments with a wry and humorous eye: “The day has ended, the chores are done/And now it’s time for homework…fun.” From the necessity of work to the blessing of marriage, and the need to keep the “BEAST” of anger caged, and the value of the words, “Thank you,” these poems deliver the serious and the lighter side of life in equal measure.
